Kiser Family

  • Story

James Kiser was born in Germany on August 20th, 1829, and married Catherine “Kate” (Magel) Darnell on December 25, 1872 in Seguin, Texas. On the marriage certificate it is spelled “Keiser”, and it is spelled “Keyser” on a land document in 1879. They are found on the 1880 Gonzales County, Texas census, which shows James as a farmer aged 48. James and Kate had 7 children together:

    1. Oscar
    2. William Henry born Sep 1873 died May 13, 1933; married Myrtie Ann Bair
    3. Phillip Houston born Sep 17, 1875, died Dec 12, 1951; Married Ottie M Leazer
    4. Minnie Lee born Feb 17, 1878, died Jul 14, 1958; married Boch

    6. Gus Eddie born abt 1890 married Winnie Dee Sutton

(Kate also had a daughter from a previous marriage to James Darnell, her name was Mary Darnell). On the same census, on the next page we see the Bair family, with Myrtie Ann at 7 years old, she would be to marry William Henry Kiser. Other noteworthy names nearby are Shuler, Howard, and Griffin.

James died November 7th, 1889. Kate lived until May 22nd, 1932. James and Kate are buried on the Buster Lindemann property in what is known as the Towns, or Coe Valley Cemetery on FM466 near Monthalia, Gonzales County, Texas.
